About Us

KAIS Performance is a family-run firm, founded in 1979 by Andy White and his wife Kath. Andy has been around bikes since his earliest days. His father and uncle ran a small workshop tuning and preparing bikes for the TT races, and sand racing in their spare time. It was in this workshop that the young Andy could be found learning his skills.

Andy started his engineering apprenticeship at the tender age of 16 and began roadracing not long afterwards. He also tried his hand at Motocross and Speedway racing, although even he would admit he was only ever a good average, and was much happier preparing the bikes than racing them!

1979 saw Andy begin working with WP running the Motocross service. This was at a time when suspension tuning was becoming a revolutionary way of obtaining more speed. It is a fact that most of the major suspension developments used in road racing today came from the experience gained in Motocross.

In 1983, Andy began his long association with the Ohlins factory, and in the last 20 years, has gained valuable experience with their products in Grand Prix, World and British Superbike where he ran the Ohlins racing service truck.

When they are not racing or developing suspension in house, Andy and his son Nick can be found at the track either testing or providing their services and expertise to track day enthusiasts. Andy's other son Jonathan formally joined the family business in 1988 having spent most of his early years following Andy round the race and Motocross tracks or helping Kath run the workshop when Andy was attending race meetings all over the world.

Jonathan began racing Motocross when he was 14, and competed in the British championship until 2003 when he took up SuperMotard. He finished 4th in the winter championship at his first attempt, and won the 2005 British Privateer SuperMotard championship. Jonathan had a serious accident at the end of 2005 losing a kidney, but he's now back to full fitness doing Enduros, as well as being the' Trials & Motocross News' chief test rider. Jonathan runs the Motocross side of the business, leaving Andy to concentrate on road racing. Nick joined the business straight from university, and now helps Andy to run the racing service.

Finally, the story wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Kath and Tosh, who although staying in the background, provides the stability and continuity to keep the workshops running smoothly when the "boys" are out at the races!

KAIS Performance - where only the best is good enough.
